The president, James Michel, and the recently renamed People's Party (PP) are expected to remain in power over the forecast period, and the next elections are not due until mid-2011 and mid-2012. The opposition is expected largely to support the government's radical reform programme in order to maintain the support of the IMF. The Fund is expected to grant Seychelles an extended fund facility (EFF) after the country's strong performance under the emergency stand-by agreement (SBA) granted in November 2008 to prevent a balance-of-payments crisis. The improving economic environment and rising tourism arrivals are expected to boost real GDP growth to 4.5% in 2010 and 5.5% in 2011. |
