EIU Slovenia

Overview

The centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) leads the current coalition government, which holds 49 of the 90 seats in parliament. The government is expected to remain in power until the next general election, scheduled for late 2008. A solid economic performance and a successful EU presidency in the first half of 2008 should allow the SDS to perform well in the election, although it will not be as dominant as in the current coalition. The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that annual average real GDP growth will fall to 4.3% in 2008-09, from an estimated 5.6% in 2007, as the expansion in business investment slows.
